GROOMING AND PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

Ties should preferably be in 100% silk and well knotted. The tie can be of dark colour which is either matching the colour of the shirt. When worn, the background colour of the tie should contrast/matching the colour of the shirt.

Hands

Hands are constantly on the display more then we realize. Hands should always be clean. Nails should be manicured once a week.

Hair

Conservative haircuts are the safest. A clean- shaven face is the best option.

Posture

Even the most well co-ordinate clothes and the personal grooming will not have the desired effect unless the person has good posture. Keep your back straight, stomach in, chest out and head up. Avoid Fidgeting, Slouching or leaning against walls or objects.

  • Shirts should be clean, well pressed and crisp.
  • Pants should be in line with shirt i.e. matching the colour of shirt.
  • Socks should preferably be in plain, solid colors, or muted patterns, and long enough so that hairy legs are not shown when legs are crossed or while working at the customers place.
  • Shoes should be co–ordinate. Navy pants and brown shoes, for example, do not belong together.

Business Wardrobe

  • Shirts of light colors like pale blue, white, cream etc. are excellent choice.
  • Men in technical and service profession should wear bright colors so that it doesn’t look dirty after one or two calls. The most important point is to dress appropriately for your profession and industry.

Health & Personal Hygiene

  • The foundation of an attractive appearance is cleanliness. Time must be set aside for daily showers or baths and regular shampooing. Use deodorants or perfumes. Wash your hands as and when necessary (paying particular attention to the nails).
  • For good dental hygiene, brushing after each meal is recommended. Dentist recommends a visit every six months for checkups and the removal of plaques.
  • Research has shown that 20 minutes of exercise every day, will yield more results than a two hour marathon on weekends.
  • Diet plays a big part in our well being. Eat a balance diet. Reduce fat intake and increase your intake of fruits and vegetables.

Body Language

  • Body language communicates your feelings, attitudes and receptivity to other.
  • Negative body language, such as the following, creates barriers in communication:
    • Little or no eye contact
    • A non smiling encounter
    • Folded arm
  • Habits can be changed with awareness and self discipline.

Adopt A More Positive Body Language

  • Smiling
  • Having an open posture
  • Leaning forward
  • Touching through a handshake
  • Establishing eye contact, and
  • Nodding whenever appropriate.
